"Enso - Movement Desires”

Created in monochrome, the works in this art series depict performative movement painting inspired by the ancient method of Japanese calligraphy (shodo). One continuous movement, one breath, no corrections permitted afterwards.

Privately performed brush movements translate the flow of energy onto paper.
The work is designed as a mirror for the inner world of the viewer by connecting them internally with their own circle of life, feeling of unity and connectedness with themselves and the rest of the world.

“Enso, also known as the Zen Circle or Circle of Enlightenment, is considered the pinnacle of Zen Buddhism. Empty yet full, infinite and complete, the caligrapher’s hand draws the special circle in one breath, with no corrections permitted afterwards. Performative way of painting adds splashes and drops around the Enso, helping to express the duality of the Enso’s meaning with a visual contrast of strong lines vs drops, curve lines vs. straight, solid and fragmented.
