”ENSO-SENZO” Body Art
Film & Fine Art Photographs 2024

Wearing the meaning of the Enso poem on my own skin.

This project was created in collaboration with Japanese calligrapher Rie Takeda and Spanish photographer Alba Cid. London 2024.

The artist Rie Takeda uses Japanese caligraphy to create and write a poem on a person’s skin that brings to life a chosen significant meaning.

Due to my ongoing fascination the Japanese Enso symbol, I have chosen it as a story for a poem. The iconic Zen symbol of connectives and the synonym of duality; empty yet full, infinite yet complete. This ideogram has been a central subject in my interdisciplinary practice and I wanted the poem to translate its meaning on me so I can enhance my own understanding and embodiment of it.

Below image gallery shows fine art photographs from the process of live body caligraphy.
The video will soon be available on view at No. 2 Boutique Art Townhouse, Lincoln.

Excerpt of poem in English:
‘ENSO-SENZO’

Who would have thought it?

That I would suddenly fall into such a warm, deep and perfect circle

That it led to an unknown world.

To be honest, I don't remember when this line started.

Maybe all the dots were the beginning.

Maybe it started around that time.

The window of my soul appeared and light began to pour in.

That was warm and pleasing.

It was very familiar to me..”
