“Aerial Enso - The Dance of Colour & Chance” No. 8
Date: 18.08.2024
Performative painting created live during the debut of “The Circle of Everything” at Camden Fringe, Cockpit Theatre, on August 18, 2024.
Combining traditional Japanese calligraphy techniques with contemporary visual art, storytelling and aerial performance.
About the Artwork:
This Enso, an iconic symbol of Zen Buddhism, represents unity, enlightenment, strength, and elegance. Painted in one fluid masterstroke and a single breath, it captures the essence of being in the flow, reflecting the Zen philosophy of synchronicity and life force energy.
Created by artist Kamila CK, this large-scale Enso was painted live and integrated into the choreography of the performance. In the final scene, vibrant red and metallic gold inks were added from above, utilizing gravity and the movement of a spinning aerial hoop. The combination of these colors with black Sumi ink adds depth and vibrancy, making the piece a unique blend of deliberate action and chance, capturing a singular, unrepeatable moment in time.
This work is part of Kamila CK’s ongoing exploration of Enso painting, a practice she has been developing since 2018 as a means to explore synchronicities in art. Inspired by her studies of traditional Japanese calligraphy (shodo) under the guidance of Japanese teacher Rie Takeda during her visits to Japan in 2018 and 2019, Kamila has created a distinctive style that blends traditional Zen calligraphy with contemporary visual art, performance, and aerial movement.
Unique Features:
Highly Collectible: A one-of-a-kind artwork created during a live performance in front of the audience and as part of major cultural event in London (Camden Fringe), making it a valuable addition to any collection.
Zen Aesthetics: Emphasizes simplicity and mindfulness, inspired by Kamila CK’s studies in traditional Japanese calligraphy.
Large Scale: Designed to be as large as possible, allowing for the dynamic movement of the artist within the circle as part of the performance.
