Painting Story:
The artwork aims to connect viewers with magic in life and illustrates it with a true story of synchronicity on canvas.
Inspired by Enso, a circular symbol from Japanese Zen caligraphy, also known as the Zen Circle or Circle of Enlightenment and considered the pinnacle of Zen Buddhism. Created in black ink on white background, empty yet full, infinite and complete, the caligrapher’s hand draws it in one breath, with no corrections permitted afterwards. It is the ultimate exercise of achieving a higher consciousness state where the symbol brushes itself, with little effort and control by the artist.
When this Enso was created in one go (in a traditional Zen way with no modification afterwards), it manifested as a snake - without the artist's intention or awareness. For over a month, colours and effects were added around it. When the work was finished and revealed, the resemblance to the snake was pointed out to the stunned artist. Coincidentally, the work is reminiscent of the ancient Ouroboros symbol, a circular snake eating its own tail (as a symbol of life and death). Yet in this case, the snake is no longer eating its tail, representing a "wake up" moment in life. The circle has been broken and transcended into something completely new.
This work represents Kamila CK's practice to wake people up from every day existence and connect them with something bigger to sparkle imagination, new realisations and internal wisdom. Furthermore, the work illustrates a synchronistic process that the artist strives for in her practice, working with movement and lack of control as a gateway to creativity.
